materials: wool felt, fabric glue, embroidery thread, clear vinyl, jersey t-shirts
Drunk on ego from finishing my first two 100 Day Projects, 2017 was the year I dove into the deep end and decided to design 100 t-shirt pockets. 2017 was a strange year for me (and in hindsight was the beginning descent into a landmark depressive episode) so a desire for escapism via masochistic art projects probably played some part.
In any case, in 2018 I started to focus on my personal consumption habits and impact on the planet, and I'm now a bit horrified by this project and the flippant wastefulness that came with buying a pile of brand new t-shirts and rendering them nearly unwearable by turning them into art objects that couldn't be easily cleaned. (Not to mention creating a HEAVY wad of t-shirts that I've now had to move to 4 different homes in 2 countries while I figure out what to do with them. )
This project remains unfinished but not done! I'm hoping to revisit and finish the series, maybe with an incorporation of sustainable or thrifted material at some point. Until then, I guess I'll keep dragging them around with me!
